About me

Clinical Psychology Marlow

I am Dr Ruchi Bakshi, a registered Clinical Psychologist. I currently split my time working at both Riverside Psychology in Marlow and a leading Children’s hospital in London.

When not at work I am busy raising my two little ones and any free time I get I like to draw and paint and think of myself as as an aspiring artist.

Social justice, equality and feminism are incredibly important to me, and self care and mindfulness are practices that I am consciously working on incorporating more into my life. I am interested in the construct of identity, being British Indian, and even more so since my transition to motherhood. I have found through my work and personal experience over many years that our construct of identity within context, and our relationship to this, is often at the heart of everything.

More about me

I completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2011. I am registered with with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC), our statutory regulatory body by law, and with the British Psychological Society as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist (CPsychol).

These regulatory bodies are the gold standard in ‘therapeutic practitioner’ and you can be assured that the highest codes of practice and ethics are followed to maintain professional registration.

I have worked in a number of well being and physical health settings, including child and adolescent services, children’s centres, adult community mental health and hospitals (adult and paediatric). I specialise in working with children, adolescents, parents (the perinatal period and beyond), and women’s health and well being. I also work with teams and systems offering consultation.

“The person is not the problem, the person is the person and the problem is the problem”
— Micheal White, Dulwich Centre

A RANGE OF THERAPIES

I work using an integrative approach, which means that I am trained in a wide range of therapies and models including CBT, ACT, Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, Systemic, Psychodynamic and Attachment based approaches. I am trained in the Solihull Approach, Incredible Years and Triple P parenting programmes. I am also trained in EMDR therapy for Trauma based therapeutic work.

I am a trained and accredited Mindful Hypnobirthing Practitioner, having completed a RCM accredited training course in early 2019.

an integrative approach to well being

I create an individualised treatment plan drawing on a wide range of models as I find this is better attuned to you, is authentic and acknowledges our uniqueness as human beings. This is one of the benefits of working with a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist as our comprehensive training and experience means that you would not be limited by model of therapy.

Following an assessment and individualised formulation, I create, collaboratively with you, a tailored intervention.

Through the therapeutic work, whether individual, family, couple or system (team/ organisation) I aim to help you separate the problem from your identity. It is when a problem is conceptually separate from ourselves that we have the power and resources to examine it, it’s relationship to us and the effect it has on our lives. Through this process we naturally move from the landscape of action into the landscape of identity and values, where we explore what is important to us, and how that has come to be. This process can help us to connect to the life we wish to lead and uncover the resources and person that may have been hidden by the problem.

As each person is an individual with their own unique story.”
